About 5000 servicemen participate in Azerbaijani-Turkish exercises in NAR

The Azerbaijani-Turkish exercises in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR) are large-scale and indicated deepening of the two countries' military cooperation, military experts said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijani and Turkish armed forces began their tactical exercises in the NAR on June 12; they will last until June 16.

The press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated that the aim of the exercise is to develop militaries' coordination through experience exchange.

The exercises involve up to 5000 servicemen and more than 250 military and special equipment, says the website of the Azerbaijani MoD.

As noted by Uzeir Jafarov, the head of the NGO "Military Journalists", the most advanced weapons at the disposal of the Azerbaijani Army are used at the exercises.

According to his story, joint exercises of this scale are held for the first time in the NAR.

He recalled that Turkey, according to the Moscow and Kars Treaties of 1921, is the guarantor of NAR's safety.

Azad Isazade, the former deputy head of the information and analytical department of the Azerbaijani MoD, said that such exercises have to do with the special location of the NAR. This is an Azerbaijani exclave, cut off from the main country's body and bordering on Armenia, Iran and Turkey.
