Vladimir Putin accuses US of supporting Chechen militants

In his interview to film director Oliver Stone, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the United States uses terrorists to shake down the domestic political situation in Russia. According to the Russian President, Moscow has proof of financial support for Chechen militants.

Vladimir Putin has said that the "cold war" is a phenomenon of the past and Russia has transparent relations "with the whole world, with Europe and the United States." "Of course, we counted on support, but instead we saw that the US special services were supporting terrorists," the Russian President has noted in the interview shown by the "Showtime" TV Channel.

When the problems arose in Northern Caucasus, the United States supported those processes, the Russian President said.

According to Vladimir Putin, a letter from the CIA has come stating that its agents consider themselves entitled to maintain relations with all members of the opposition forces and will continue to do so. Meanwhile, "it is clear that the letter refers to terrorist agencies mentioned as ordinary opposition," Vladimir Putin noted.
