Makhachkala resident claims confessing to crime under torture
Abulmuslim Alibegov, a resident of Makhachkala, accused of stealing money and gold from a deposit box at the "Rosselkhozbank", has claimed that he was kidnapped by law enforcers, who tortured him with electric current and forced him to confess to the crime.
In February 2017, a deposit box with jewels and money totalling to 20 million roubles was robbed at the branch of Joint-Stock Company (JSC) "Rosselkhozbank" in No. 40 in Shamil Avenue in Makhachkala.
On May 5, Abulmuslim Alibegov, born in 1989, was accused of the crime. According to investigators, he robbed the bank in collusion with his friend. Public prosecutors believe that Abulmuslim Alibegov came to the bank with a forged passport, signed a lease of a safe deposit box and there stole money and valuables from another deposit box. For his act, Abulmuslim Alibegov was paid 300,000 roubles, the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft) reports.
On May 7, the man told investigators that on April 29, he was kidnapped by strangers, who then tortured him with electric current and forced him to confess to the robbery of the bank.
Abulmuslim Alibegov was tortured during several hours, reports advocate Sapiyat Magomedova. According to her, torturers connected electric wires to the man's toes. "The torture lasted several hours. He lost consciousness several times. They brought him to his senses by pouring cold water on him," said Sapiyat Magomedova as quoted by the "Kavkaz.Realii".
