Dagestan to mark first day of Ramadan on May 27

In Dagestan, the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan will be started on May 27. The appropriate decision was made at a meeting of the Council of Dagestani Alims. According to the Muftiate, the decision is not final, and theologians will follow the appearance of the moon.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last year, Dagestan started the holy fasting month of Ramadan on June 7, a day later than other Russian regions. Such a decision was made by the Council of Dagestani Alims, who explained their decision by the fact that the young moon, marking the beginning of the holy month, could be seen in Dagestan later than in other regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

The meeting of the Council of Dagestani Alims, at which the date of the beginning of Ramadan was discussed, was held in the administrative building of the Central Juma Mosque in Makhachkala on May 21.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) for Dagestan, has noted that the decision made on May 21 about the date of the beginning of Ramadan has been preliminary.

"This is not the final decision, since we will follow the appearance of the moon," reported an official from the Dagestani Muftiate as quoted by the "Novoe Delo" on May 23.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
