Azerbaijan decides to bid for Olympics-2028
Azerbaijan has announced its intention to nominate for hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 2028. Madrid will be Baku's main rival.
Several times before, Azerbaijan had nominated Baku for hosting the Olympiad, but its attempts failed. This was stated by Azad Ragimov, the Azerbaijani Sports Minister at a press conference on Monday, May 22.
"The nomination of candidates for the Olympics-2028 will begin in 2020. The decision to nominate Baku for the race will be made by the President of Azerbaijan. To do so, we need to assess the existing infrastructure, and modernize it in accordance with the requirements of the Olympic Games," Mr Ragimov said, as quoted by the "Interfax".
