Residents of Chechnya complain about being resettled from dilapidated houses to smaller apartments

In 2016, in Chechnya, 2245 local residents were resettled from dilapidated housing. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official from the Ministry of Construction for the Chechen Republic. Meanwhile, local residents argue that when resettled from dilapidated houses in Chechnya, tenants are provided with a smaller apartment than they had earlier.

When the authorities provide new apartments to people, they fail to take into account number of family members and available space. So, instead of two- and three-room apartments, people are provided with one- and two-room apartments. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the residents of Chechnya, resettled from dilapidated houses. The people expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of the authorities.

"For example, I had a three-room apartment in an old cottage. And in replacement I was provided with a two-room apartment on the 6th floor of a new house in Grozny. My neighbour who lived in a two-room apartment was provided with a one-room apartment. It is just a mockery of people and not a solution to our problems," noted Ramzan, a local resident.

Many residents are also dissatisfied with the fact that they lose their subsidiary plots.

"The authorities could simply allocate funds to repair old cottages and give people the right to choose to move to new apartments or stay in old places. I believe that most of people, especially older ones, would prefer the second option. It is no surprise that at the first opportunity, owners of new apartments sell them and purchase houses, even small ones, but with land plots," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Akhyad, a member of one of the local NGOs.
