HSE studies adaptation problems of Syrian refugees in KChR

The Syrian Circassians, who arrived in Russia, mostly settle in Adygea and Kabardino-Balkaria; while in the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), there are tens of times less refugees left. This was reported by the staff of the laboratory for monitoring the risks of socio-political destabilization of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" (HSE). In the course of their research expedition to the KChR, scientists will study the reasons that prevent migrants to integrate into the society.

The expedition will be held in the first half of July 2017 in the villages of Khabez, Ersakon, Ali-Berdukovsky, and also in city of Cherkessk. Scientists will interview the settlers in their residences.

Eugeny Ivanov, a junior researcher, said they will study the factors that prevent the Syrian settlers to integrate.

Upon arrival in Russia, Circassians with Syrian citizenship face problems with employment and finding housing, since they are not covered by the status of compatriots, said the activists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". In their opinion, the state should provide all the Circassians coming to the country with all they need, namely, housing, work, access to education and medical services.
