Tolfa condemns Armenian Genocide

The community council of the city of Tolfa located near the capital of Italy has officially recognized the genocide of the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire.

Armenia canonized more than 1.5 million Armenians killed in Ottoman Turkey in 1915. The Turkish authorities do not treat those events as the genocide.

The "Assoarmeni", an association of Armenian community of Rome, proposed the community council of the Italian city of Tolfa to declare the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The city of Tolfa always respected the memory of the tragic fate of the Armenian people, emphasized Tolfa Mayor Luigi Landi, the "Tert.am" reports.

On the occasion of the adoption of the resolution, Tirayr Akopyan, the priest of the Armenian Apostolic Church, consecrated a Khachkar memorial cross in the garden of Tolfa.

The Armenian Genocide is recognized by more than 20 states, including Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, France, Poland, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Uruguay, Greece, Cyprus, and Vatican. Besides, 43 out of 50 US states also recognized the Armenian Genocide.
