In Karachaevsk, about 5000 people attended the rally dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the return of the Karachay people from deportation.

The deportation of Karachay people to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan was started on November 2, 1943. As a result of the deportation, 69,267 people (15,980 families), including 36,670 children, were sent to exile.

The Karachay people "have withstood all the hard trials due to their diligence and perseverance," emphasized Mukhadin Shenkao, the chairman of the Interethnic Council of Karachay-Cherkessian NGOs.

"Over the past 60 years, the Karachay people have made great strides in all areas of the national economy and in science, medicine, and sports," said Mukhadin Shenkao.

Karachay-Cherkessian leader Rashid Temrezov has congratulated the participants of the rally on the occasion of the Revival Day of Karachay People.

The participants of the rally laid flowers to the Memorial to victims of the repressions of the Karachay people.
