KChR’s leader announces May 3 a day off

According to the decree of Rashid Temrezov, the head of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), the Revival Day of the Karachay People, marked on May 3, will be a day off, because of the anniversary – 60 year from the start of mass return from deportation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 3 the KChR marks the Revival Day of the Karachay People.

The deportation of Karachays to Kazakhstan and Kirghizia began on November 2, 1943, resulting in eviction of 69,267 people (15,980 families), of whom, 36,670 were children. In the KChR, May 3 was announced the Revival Day of the Karachay People in memory of the fact that on May 3, 1957, the first echelon with the Karachays returning from deportation to their homeland arrived in the city of Cherkessk.

"In connection with the jubilee date – the 60th anniversary of the start of the mass return of the Karachay people to their historical homeland after a 14-year-long stay in places of illegal deportation, May 3, 2017, – the Revival Day of the Karachay People – has been declared, by a decree of the head of the KChR, a day off," says the today's message posted on the website of the head and government of the KChR.
