"Novaya Gazeta" reports delivery of data on persecution of gays in Chechnya to investigators

The list, including personal data of 26 residents of Chechnya, subjected to repression, including on the basis of suspicion of homosexual orientation, has been sent to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 1, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" reported about mass detentions in Chechnya of men suspected of unconventional sexual orientation. Later, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" reported with reference to gays persecuted in Chechnya that in Argun, a "secret prison" had been arranged for people with unconventional sexual orientation.

In Chechnya, there are at least six secret prisons, in which hundreds of detainees are being kept without proper procedural documents, including those suspected of homosexual orientation. This has been reported by the today's article "Chechnya engaged in prevention activities" published on the website of the "Novaya Gazeta".

The newspaper reports that it has sent to the ICRF the personal data of 26 residents of Chechnya who were illegally detained and fell victims to extrajudicial persecution, including the people killed only on the basis of suspicion of non-traditional sexual orientation.

Besides, the journalists of the "Novaya Gazeta" have also handed over to the ICRF all the factual data known to them, which, according to the above article, make it possible to reveal and prove the circumstances of the persecution of residents of Chechnya on suspicion of homosexual orientation.

The investigation is being carried out by investigator Igor Sobol. The "Novaya Gazeta" treats him as one of the most experienced investigators of the ICRF, most informed about Chechen realities.
