Sochi Cossack Fetisov convicted for five years

The Adler District Court of Sochi has sentenced the Cossack Sergey Fetisov, accused of a fraud, to five years in a general-security colony. It took the judge only ten minutes to draw up the verdict, which means that it was agreed in advance, the defence believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, in the opinion of investigators, in 2008, Sergey Fetisov, the deputy ataman of the Adler Cossack Society, received from the victims Sergey Finko and Nadezhda Kabanets 405,000 US dollars in exchange of 0.5 hectares from the land allocated to the Cossack Society in 1993. However, Finko and Kabanets did not receive the promised land plots. Fetisov refused to plead guilty stating that the land plots had been captured.

The court found Fetisov guilty of four fraud episodes, and granted the suits of two victims in the amount of almost 15 million roubles.

Nothing declared by Fetisov and his defence mattered for the court, said the advocate Mikhail Okhrimenko, adding that none of the defence’s arguments were included into the verdict.

He assured that the verdict would be appealed.
