Defence of Abdusalam Ramazanov urges court to acquit him

During the debate at the trial, Abdusalam Ramazanov, a native of the Tsuntin District of Dagestan, accused of trying to join militants in Syria, has pleaded not guilty. His defence has pointed to the absence of any evidence in the case, other than testimony of a witness, and requested the court to acquit the defendant. This was reported by an advocate of the defendant.

Abdusalam Ramazanov does not admit his guilt. He insists that he went to the Middle East for the study: at first in Egypt and then in Turkey. The case against him is being considered by the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. Earlier, the Court has refused to institute proceedings on the complaint filed by Abdusalam Ramazanov against torture.

At the court session held on April 11, the defendant and his advocates spoke in the debate. Abdusalam Ramazanov has once again told the Court that he had been subjected to torture, advocate Elena Denisenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Abdusalam Ramazanov has claimed that the criminal case against him was fabricated. He has said that the law enforcement bodies use such methods to show good figures of their activities, and no one in Dagestan can stop that," the defender said.

"I have reported to the Court that there is no evidence base other than the testimony of a person travelling abroad together with Abdusalam Ramazanov," Elena Denisenko said. And she continued: "There is nothing more in the case: no inquiries of operative-search activities, no billings of mobile phones, etc."
