In Vladikavkaz, young people protest against renaming of Ingushetia into Alania

In the evening of March 5, Vladikavkaz residents gathered at the square near the statue of Lenin. They were protesting against the initiative to rename Ingushetia to Alania, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The petition "To rename the current Republic of Ingushetia into the Republic of Alania" was published on the website Change.org a week ago. The petition was initiated by Alikhan Tsoroev from Saint Petersburg.

In the evening of March 5, residents of North Ossetia, standing against the renaming of Ingushetia, organized a rally in the centre of Vladikavkaz. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the press service of the head of the region that the protest action was attended by about 500 people. Meanwhile, the "TASS" reports with reference to the law enforcement bodies about 1000 Vladikavkaz residents who attended the rally.

The protestors who gathered at Lenin   Square have expressed their hope that the initiative to rename Ingushetia into Alania will not go beyond the online petition.
