Petition on Musaeva's CER returned for reconsideration

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has returned the petition that asked for conditional early relief (CER or parole) of Zarema Musaeva to the Shali City Court for reconsideration. Her son treats her condition as depressed due to the new case against her on disrupting the colony's work.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, Musaeva was questioned by an investigator in the colony in Argun. The issue was about her attack on the FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) employee who accompanied her on trips to the hospital. Musaeva asserts that she has committed no attack. An investigation has been launched against Musaeva under the article on disruption of the colony operation; the woman faces up to five years of freedom deprivation.

"The petition for Musaeva's CER has been sent to the Shali City Court for a new consideration ... The petition itself has not been granted," said a representative of the "Team Against Torture" (TaT)*, whose advocate is defending Musaeva's interests.

The defence is unaware of the reasons for the appellate court's decision, the advocate has noted.

Although her health condition has stabilized, a new criminal case could worsen the situation, Abubakar Yangulbaev, a Musaeva's son, believes.

*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
