MIA finds no proofs of mass shooting stray dogs in Makhachkala

All the statements of Makhachkala residents, who heard gunfire and dogs’ squealing, were checked, but policemen found no facts of shooting at animals, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated. The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has instructed its investigators to check the information about the mass shooting of stray dogs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19 in Makhachkala the body of a nine-year girl was found; by the preliminary investigators’ version, she died as a result of stray dogs’ attacks. After the incident, residents of Dagestan began reporting mass shooting of stray dogs in the republic.

After mass media’s publications about unsanctioned hunting on stray dogs in Makhachkala, the head of the republic's GPO instructed his investigators to make a procedural check. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it at the GPO’s press service.

"The check is not over; we’ll surely inform people about its results," said a GPO source.

There were direct citizens' appeals to the MIA about unsanctioned shooting of stray dogs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Dagestani MIA.

"There were several telephone calls about shooting and subsequent dogs’ squeals. Investigators visited the sites, but in the course of inquiries, the information was not confirmed," said the source.
