Volgograd Regional Duma refuses to accept Holocaust exhibition

The placement of the mobile exhibition "The Holocaust: Destruction, Liberation, Salvation" in the premises of the Regional Duma was denied by local MPs.

It was planned to hold the opening ceremony of the above exhibition in the Volgograd Regional Duma on the Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yael Yoffe, the board chairman of the Volgograd Jewish Community Centre, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Yael Yoffe, activists of the Jewish Community Centre had asked the MPs "to dedicate one day to the opening ceremony of the exhibition, to demonstrate that they understand its importance."

"Also, we had an agreement with the managers of the museum-panorama 'The Battle of Stalingrad' that on the Holocaust memorial days, the exhibition would be placed there, in the museum. We had planned to hold the opening ceremony on January 30 at the Regional Duma, and on January 31 – to open the exhibition in 'The Battle of Stalingrad'. However, since the Regional Duma has rejected the opening ceremony, we changed the dates: now, the exhibition will be brought and placed in the museum on February 9," said Yael Yoffe.

The refusal to accept the exhibition "runs counter the basic Russia's state policy," the Jewish Community Centre believes.
