Defence disagrees with refusal to investigate Dagestani's statement about torture

The court in Rostov-on-Don has questioned witnesses and considered the refusal to initiate proceedings on the application of torture, lodged by Abdusalam Ramazanov, accused of an attempt to join Syrian militants. His advocate will appeal against the investigator's refusal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdusalam Ramazanov, a native of the Tsuntin District of Dagestan, refused to plead guilty, insisting that he had gone to the Middle East to study – first in Egypt, and then in Turkey.

On January 11, four prosecution witnesses were questioned, the advocate Elena Denisenko reports, adding that "also at the session, the investigators' decision not to open a criminal case on the fact of bodily injuries was announced."

The next session on Ramazanov's case is scheduled for January 19.

According to Denisenko, Ramazanov was detained in Istanbul shortly after the terror act at the police station on January 6, 2015. A woman from Dagestan was later named as the terrorist.
