Sochi: residents of apartment house demand to save it from landslide

Residents of an apartment block located in the "Makarenko" Garden Partnership have held a rally and demanded from the Mayoralty to enforce the court judgement and liquidate an unauthorized dump of soil and construction debris, which has caused a landslide on the house. However, an official of the Mayoralty said that they would appeal against the judgement.

Over 15 houses have been built in the "Makarenko" Garden Partnership; however, there is no duly maintained road to the houses, which are located on landslide slopes.

Local residents report that almost all the trees, which earlier held off landslides, were cut off on the lands of the partnership.

The newly built house No. 8b/8 in Makarenko Street, which is under threat of a landslide, was legalized by Judge Vladislav Vlasenko from the Tsentralny District Court of Sochi on June 27, 2013.

The residents of the house, who came to the rally on December 24 said that their problems began after all the apartments had been sold out.

According to Natalia Arsentieva, the chair of the house committee, on December 23 the house was visited by officials, who, however, refused to take any measures.

Residents showed the correspondent the earth dumps, which has broken windows in the ground floor; mud flows got into the house and flooded the ground-floor apartments.

The Mayoralty must immediately fulfil the court judgement, said the independent lawyer Mikhail Okhrimenko, who is not involved in this case.
