In Volgograd, parents accuse officials of violating rights of visually impaired children
The regional public organization (RPO) "Ray of Light" of parents of visually impaired children has filed to the court a claim against the Regional Committee of Education and Science. According to parents, inaction of the Committee's officials resulted in the fact that special schools face shortage of speech therapists and professionals to work with visually impaired children.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2016, in Volgograd, the parents of visually impaired children demanded to preserve a medical unit at the school No. 31 and stop the reorganization of the schools No. 1 and No. 2.
According to Olga Sedykh, the chair of the Board of the RPO "Ray of Light", visually impaired children are deprived of possibility to obtain special conditions for their studies.
Olga Sedykh notes that the existence of educational institutions for visually impaired children is a state-level challenge that cannot "lie on the shoulders" of the subjects of the Federation.
The leader of the "Ray of Light" has also added that if visually impaired children do not receive medical treatment until they are 12 years old the best period of time when the medical treatment of the eye diseases is most effective, part of the children whose health problems could be corrected may keep them forever.
