Public prosecutor demands to sentence Varvara Karaulova to five years of imprisonment in penal colony

Today, during the pleadings of the parties at a court hearing in the case against Alexandra Ivanova (Varvara Karaulova), public prosecutor has asked the court to sentence the defendant to five years of imprisonment and a fine of 150,000 roubles.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, the Moscow District Military Court started to consider the case against Alexandra Ivanova (Varvara Karaulova), accused of an attempt to join a terrorist organization in Syria.

Today, the public prosecutor has stated that he considers the Alexandra Ivanova's guilt as completely proved.

Public prosecutor Mikhail Reznichenko has asked the court to take into account the testimony given by Alexandra Ivanova during the preliminary investigation. According to the public prosecutor, the testimony given by the defendant during the trial "contains a lot of contradictions," while her earlier testimony is confirmed by numerous witnesses.

"During the whole trial, the defendant assured us that she was in love with a picture. However, it is found out that Alexandra Ivanova left for Syria to join a terrorist organization, no matter what kind of it: the 'Islamic State' (IS) or 'Dzhebhad en-Nusra' (both banned in Russia, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'). She got the money for tickets from one man, she was met by another man, and later, she exchanged letters with the third man. Such a line of defence and the position of Varvara Karaulova herself at the trial cannot withstand any criticism," stated the public prosecutor.
