Animal rights activists point to irrelevance of law on animal chipping in Krasnodar Territory

In Kuban, the regional law on mandatory chipping of cats and dogs, valid from October 2016, does not actually work, and it is to be cancelled or amended. This opinion is voiced by Krasnodar animal rights activists. According to owners of veterinary clinics, the region needs no a law on chipping, but a law on mandatory sterilization of animals.

According to Elena Nasedkina, an animal rights activist, she appealed to the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Territory with a proposal to introduced amendments to the law.

The animal rights activist has noted that at present, a pet should be subjected to chipping within three days after it is sheltered by its owner. Meanwhile, it often happens that "animals enter shelters in an extremely weakened state and the procedure of chipping can become fatal for them."

In her turn, Ekaterina Surkova, an owner of the Krasnodar shelter "KotiKo", has reported an increase in the number of stray animals after the law entered into force. According to her, owners of outbred dogs are not willing to pay money for their pets.

Anfisa Alekhina, an owner of the shelter "Matroskin" from the Cossack village of Vasyurinskaya, believes that chipping "is important for owners of expensive purebred dogs, which can be found due to chip information in case of their theft or loss."

According to the owner of the shelter, Russia "needs to adopt a law to stipulate mandatory free sterilization of pets," and then the problem of stray animals can be solved.
