In Sochi, animal rights activists criticize draft pet regulations

In Sochi, the City Mayor's Office has developed draft pet regulations, including the procedure for capture and disposal of stray animals in the city. The animal rights activists believe the regulations need to be improved.

According to two paragraphs of the draft regulations, stray animals without owner can be killed in nurseries after six months, regardless of their health or age.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October, in Kuban, the Legislative Assembly adopted amendments to the Law "On keeping pets in the Krasnodar Territory", under which owners of dogs and cats were obliged to get passports for their pets and let introduce chips under pets' skin. All the cats and dogs should be subjected to mandatory registration with chips.

The very title "On keeping pets, capture and disposal of stray animals in the territory of Sochi" is the promotion of cruelty to animals. This opinion was voiced by Valentina Safronova, who created a mini-shelter for cats in local area of an apartment building.
