About 900,000 live below poverty line in Armenia
Every third citizen of Armenia lives below the poverty line, the National Statistical Service said in its report "Social Review and Poverty in Armenia", prepared with the assistance of the World Bank.
According to the report, in 2015, in Armenia, about 900,000 persons lived below the poverty line; of whom 310,000 were in the category of "very poor"; and 60,000 – as "extremely poor".
In 2015, the minimum poverty level was fixed in Yerevan, where it made 25%, while the highest one – in the Shirak Region, where it reached 45%.
According to the above Service, in 2015, the maximum poverty threshold for an adult amounted to about 41,700 drams (about 87 US dollars) per month; and the minimum poverty threshold – a bit more than 34,000 drams (about 71 US dollars), while the threshold of extreme poverty was about 24,000 drams (about 50 US dollars).
