Makhachkala residents claim absence of adequate authorities' response to mass poisoning

According to residents of Makhachkala, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", there are sufficient amount of medicines in hospitals, and physicians render all necessary medical care to the victims of poisoning. However, the city residents believe the reaction of the authorities on the incident is insufficient.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has talked to parents of the children who fell victim to poisoning. Most parents note a rapid development of the disease, while patients should quickly recover with medical treatment rendered in due time.

When asked about how his child got to a hospital with poisoning, the father of one of the children answered: "He drunk the water at the school, and then he was taken to the hospital directly from the lessons."

"The attitude of physicians was surprisingly friendly," noted the father of the boy.

"All the physicians were working non-stop, and they brought boxes of medicines. Many of patients were discharged on their own desire," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ali, whose child had been hospitalized with poisoning to the Republican Children's Hospital and discharged after medical treatment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, as of November 2, 618 people received medical treatment in a day hospital regime and continue treatment at home.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 31, in Makhachkala, activists held a rally to express their dissatisfaction with the situation in the city. Apart from other things, the protestors also mentioned mass poisoning of Makhachkala residents with drinking water.

"All people have the same demands: to ensure heating of houses, disposal of garbage in due time and supply clean water... The guilty persons should be brought to justice. Officials of the 'Rospotrebnadzor' (Russian Federal Service for Consumer Supervision) should be brought to justice, together with the administration. Meanwhile, the authorities of our republic have made no statements on the situation," said Zaira Alieva, a participant of the rally held in Makhachkala on October 31.

"The city has become a pigsty, a garbage dump," said Khamis Eminova, a participant of the rally. She has also added that "all the officials are concerned only over raising money." The woman has treated the decision of the supervisory authorities and agencies as "concerts".

"The most important thing is to at least ensure watching of the October Revolution Channel, because of which people were poisoned. Anyone can go there," said Sultanat Butaeva, a participant of the rally.
