In Quarter 3 of 2016, 56 people fell victims to armed conflict in Dagestan

In July-September of 2016, at least 56 people fell victims to the armed conflict in  Dagestan; among them 45 were killed and 11 wounded. These are the findings of the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Among those perished there were 4 civilians, 5 law enforcers and 36 persons allegedly involved in the activities of illegal armed formations (IAFs). One civilian and 10 law enforcers were wounded.

The above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the real number of victims. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the truthfulness of law enforcers' statements; and sometimes new data about the events of the reporting period become known after the publication of statistics by the "Caucasian Knot".

In Quarter 1 of 2016, at least 39 persons fell victims to the armed conflict in Dagestan; 16 of them were killed and 23 - wounded.

In Quarter 2, at least 62 persons fell victims; 37 of them were killed and 25 - wounded.

In 2015, at least 153 persons fell victims to the armed conflict in Dagestan 126 of them were killed and 27 wounded. In 2014, there were 293 victims: 208 killed and 85 wounded. In 2013, the number of victims amounted to 641 persons, 341 of them killed and at least 300 persons were wounded.

    A court dismissed all the arguments of the defence and upheld the decision to fine Marina Melikhova, an activist from Kuban, whose verse the law enforcement bodies recognized as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. Marina Melikhova, who does not have the money to pay the fine, intends to file an appeal against the court’s decision.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report. Among the victims have been Abubakar Mestoev and Umar Chichaev, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Northern Caucasus, reports Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine. Meanwhile, Ruslan Mitrofan requested the compensation in the amount of 100,000 roubles.
