In Sochi, former student of MIA Academy taken into custody on suspicion of trying to join IS

Anzor Magomadov, a 27-year-old resident of Sochi, a former student of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), is detained on suspicion of trying to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia. The accusation is absolutely groundless, and weapons and ammunition were planted to Anzor Magomadov during his detention, claim his relatives. They associate the criminal proceedings against Anzor Magomadov with the fact that his younger brother has been staying in the territory of Syria for two years.

The court has pronounced the decision to arrest Anzor Magomadov until October 15.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Malika Gendergunoeva, the mother of the detainee, on August 14, in Sochi, her son's car was stopped by inspectors of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS). People in masks "put a plastic bag on his head and planted weapons and ammunition to his car."

According to investigators, Anzor Magomadov was going to reach Syria through the territories of Abkhazia and then Georgia and Turkey. A ticket to Abkhazia was purchased for his name; however, the Anzor Magomadov's mother believes that "the ticket was bought by law enforcers to justify their version."

The woman has also added that, according to the advocate, after interrogation, he saw signs of torture with electric current on the Anzor's body.

The investigators allege that Anzor Magomadov "professes the ideas of radical concept of Islam of extremist nature."

On August 24, Victoria Alyokhina, the wife of Anzor Magomadov, filed to the Prosecutor's Office of Sochi an appeal with a request to bring to justice the law enforcers who carried out a search at her home.

According to the defence, the selection of the pre-trial restriction measure was also made with gross violation of the law.
