Gasan Abdullaev, killed today in Dagestan and well-known by under the nickname of "Abu Yasir", was considered to be one of the leaders of North-Caucasian militants, who swore allegiance to "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia. The death of Gasan Abdullaev was confirmed by the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that two OMON (riot police) fighters were also killed during a special operation carried out in the Derbent District in the vicinity of the village of Gedjukh.

Gasan Abdullaev was born in the village of Gurik of the Tabasaran District, and he used to be "Amir of the South sector of Vilayat Dagestan", reports journalist Orkhan Djemal.

According to law enforcers, Gasan Abdullaev was an organizer of undermining of a passenger train "Sapsan" Moscow-Saint Petersburg, which was prevented by the FSB in summer of 2011. In January 2012, investigators revealed that the terror act was plotted in the organization "Imarat Kavkaz", banned in Russia, under the guidance of Doku Umarov. Gasan Abdullaev was put on the wanted list.

In October 2015, Yana Amelina, Secretary-Coordinator of the Caucasian Geopolitical Club, expressed the opinion that given the "deserts" of Gasan Abdullaev, it is most likely that he will be killed, and no trial is likely to take place against him.
