Films about Olympiad and terrorism in Northern Caucasus screened at "Kinotavr"

On June 8, at the "Kinotavr" Film Festival, which is taking place in Sochi, in the short film contest, the film by Grigory Kolomiytsev "Maria" was screened, dedicated to the problem of terrorism in Northern Caucasus. The main role was played by Madlen Djabrailova, an actress of Lezgin origin.

In the film, Djabrailova's heroine is visited by special agents, who tell her that her son had undergone training in some armed formations in Nalchik and took hostages in one of the villages of the mountainous part of Ingushetia.

Grigory Kolomiytsev is sure that the problems touched on in his film are still very topical for some regions of Southern Russia.

"People die there; and we know nothing about it. My female university classmate from Ingushetia said that such incidents happen there every day," said Kolomiytsev.

On June 7, the festival held an off-contest special screening - the audience could watch the documentary "Peace Rings" by the documentary filmmaker Sergey Miroshnichenko, who is known for his series of films "Born in the USSR".

This film is an official documentary of the International Olympic Committee about the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

The film focuses on athletes' life and experiences, rather than on the political context of the Olympiad, Sergey Miroshnichenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The main message is of humanistic character; and the director, as he said, sought to reveal, first of all, famous athletes' humane features.
