NAC reports on prevention of IS terror acts in Russia

An official of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has reported on prevention of the attempt to transfer fighters of the "Islamic State" (IS) to Russia and of terror acts plotted by a group of Russian citizens who swore allegiance to the IS. Meanwhile, in 2015, in Russia, the NAC registered the decrease in the number of terrorist crimes by 2.5 times.

"On January 27, the investigating authorities of Karachay-Cherkessia instituted criminal cases against a group of ten people," stated Andrei Przhezdomsky, the adviser to the NAC Chairman, the chief of the NAC Information Centre.

According to him, they "made contact with one of the IS leaders and started to prepare terror acts", the "Interfax" reports.

"During the special operation, three of them were neutralized, and six others were detained," explained the NAC official.

The secret services have also prevented the attempt to transfer to Northern Caucasus a grouping of terrorists trained in the ranks of the "Islamic State", noted the NAC official.

According to Andrei Przhezdomsky, the secret services are also aware of the IS units, plotting terror acts on the territory of the Russian Federation. "We are talking about the battalion, consisting mainly of natives of Northern Caucasus. They are headed by Akhmed Chetaev aka 'One-Armed'," Andre Przhezdomsky reports as quoted by the "Kommersant".

Meanwhile, according to the NAC, the Russian secret services have managed to reverse the increased trend of the number of Russian citizens leaving for Syria to take part in combat actions on the side of the terrorists.

According to Andrei Przhezdomsky, the Russian secret services have prevented the departure of more than 100 Russian citizens to Iraq and Syria who intended to join the IS, and 832 militants who returned from abroad, including 22 recruiters, were brought to responsibility, the "TASS" reports.
