Resident of Dagestan sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for helping militants

The Suleiman-Stalsky District Court has found a local resident Ignat Abdurakhmanov guilty of helping participants of the armed underground, as well as of illegal possession of an explosive device.

The court has found that from August 2014 till May 2015 Abdurakhmanov, being a supporter of radical Islam, rendered help to members of the illegal armed formation (IAF) "Yuzhnaya" (Southern). In particular, he provided them with housing and foodstuffs.

Besides, with the aim to finance the IAF, Abdurakhmanov gave its members the cash in the amount of 30,000 roubles. He also illegally kept an explosive device – a grenade.

As a result of the consideration of the case, the court sentenced Abdurakhmanov to 8.5 years in a high-security colony and subsequent restriction of freedom for 2 years, says the website of the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office.
