Mosque able to house 3000 believers opened in Western Chechnya

In the village of Sernovodskaya, Sunzha District, a new mosque was opened, designed to house 3000 parishioners. In the coming weeks the republic will open two other large mosques – in the city of Shali and the village of Avtury.

The mosque in Sernovodskaya is named after Ramzan Kadyrov's mother's uncle – Alim-Solta Baisultanov. The Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya has noted that Baisultanov was a well-known and respected theologian, repressed in 1937.

The erection of the mosque began in May at the expense of the Regional Public Fund named after Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov.

Locals say that until recently to commit their collective Friday prayer (named namaz-ruzba, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") they had to travel to neighbouring villages.

The SAM notes that the mosque in Sernovodskaya was opened in the Muslim holy month of Rabi' al-awwal, in which the Prophet Muhammad was born.

Today, Chechnya has over 800 mosques. The largest ones are the mosque "Heart of Chechnya" named after Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov in Grozny and mosque named after Aimani Kadyrova in the city of Argun, which can house 10,000 and 15,000 believers, respectively.
