Journalist Ani Gevorkyan files lawsuit to ECtHR
In her complaint lodged to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), journalist Ani Gevorkyan appealed against the decision of the court in Armenia to stop the criminal case on the use of violence against her by policemen.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ani Gevorkyan complained about obstruction by the police to her filming an oppositional protest action on February 12, 2014, after which she was illegally taken to the police station, where, according to her version, some senior police officer applied violence to her. The Special Investigating Service had opened a criminal case, but then stopped it "for absence of corpus delicti."
Ani Gevorkyan herself informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about her claim to the ECtHR, explaining that "the state has failed to ensure the inquiry into violations of her rights while covering the oppositional action."
"There is hope that the ECtHR will give legal evaluation of the actions of law enforcement bodies and courts of Armenia, which encouraged, by their decisions, violence against journalists by leaving unpunished facts of use of violence against mass media professionals," said Gevorkyan.
