AI holds commemoration of Estemirova in European cities

Russian investigators must do everything possible to solve Natalia Estemirova's murder, committed six years ago, said activists of the "Amnesty International" (AI) in the course of the actions held in a number of European cities.

The actions in Moscow and at Russian Embassies in Berlin, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Luxembourg, Madrid, Rome and other cities were held on July 15, the anniversary of Estemirova's murder.

In the course of the action in Moscow, activists gave flowers to passers-by and offered to sign a postcard, addressed to investigators. At pickets near Russia's Embassies, they sent bouquets of flowers to employees of Russian diplomatic missions in memory of Estemirova.

"It is known that shortly before her death, Natalia received explicit threats, including from high-ranking officials, for her investigations into kidnappings and extrajudicial executions in Chechnya. However, today, six years later, we still do not know the names of the killers and customers; we see no active investigation, and no results of the inquiry," says the AI's website.

Let us remind you that on July 15 Moscow opened the exhibition "The Never-Ending Story: Violence and Impunity in Northern Caucasus". On the opening day, a roundtable was held, where rights defenders discussed the situation with kidnappings and use of torture in the region.
