PFPA activist Murad Adilov sentenced to 7 years in prison

In Azerbaijan, the court has convicted Murad Adilov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Murad Adilov was detained on August 11, 2014. His defence stated that investigators used illegal methods to receive the evidence; and the defendant was tortured. Adilov rejects the accusations of drug possession and links his prosecution with his oppositional activities.

Murad Adilov has been put on the updated list of Azerbaijani political prisoners released on May 8.

At the today's court session, Judge Elshad Aliev has sentenced Murad Adilov to 6 years in a general-security colony.

The advocate Imanov has treated the verdict as unjustified, illegal and unfair.

The defence has announced its intention to appeal against the verdict at the Court of Appeal (CoA).
