Elvin Abdullaev, activists of PFPA youth committee, detained in Baku

Elvin Abdullaev, a member of the Youth Committee of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained in Baku on suspicion of drug dealing.

He was detained back on January 8, but information about it appeared only a day later, Ilham Gusein, the head of the Youth Committee of the PFPA, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mr Gusein believes that Elvin Abdullaev is persecuted for political reasons.

"In the new year, authorities continue their 'old traditions' – arrests of opposition activists on trumped-up charges. This is a continuation of the authorities' hostile attitude to the PFPA. Elvin is the fourth member of the Youth Committee, thrown in jail, and the eighth party activist kept under arrest," said Gusein, suggesting that Abdullaev may be persecuted for his harsh criticism of the authorities on the Facebook.
