Shamil Gazaliev from Chechnya suspected of involvement in warfare in Syria
Shamil Gazaliev, a resident of Grozny, who was regarded missing since the summer of 2014, is in Syria, taking part in the war for the anti-governmental forces, said the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya. In case of his homecoming, Gazaliev will be detained.
A criminal case against Shamil Gazaliev was initiated on October 16, a source from the Office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.
According to his story, initially Shamil Gazaliev was considered missing under mysterious circumstances.
Natives of Chechnya get to Syria because they do not know their religion, said Arbi G., a former employee of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
"Even now, there are people here, who are convinced that a jihad against the infidels is on in this country. In fact, it's just a goal of the war in Syria – to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad disliked by the West, same as it was done in Iraq and Libya. Some young people, after watching various videos posted on the Internet by Syrian militants, really believe that there is an inter-religious war there – a war between Islam and Christianity that wants to eradicate Muslims," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
