Law enforcers let officials' cars pass through closed Gimry Tunnel, locals assert
In Dagestan, the closure of the Gimry Tunnel by law enforcers is "selective" in nature. According to local residents, cars of officials of the administrations and even taxis are free to move through the tunnel, which is officially closed, while ambulance cars and cars of ordinary villagers are not allowed to enter the Gimry Tunnel.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, the Gimry Tunnel was closed, since law enforcers cordoned off the settlement of Vremenny of the Untsukul District. Initially, the Gimry Tunnel was to resume its operation on September 23; however, its opening was repeatedly postponed.
Residents of mountainous regions of Dagestan complain that the delays in opening of the Gimry Tunnel for traffic create a lot of problems.
According to Magomed Rasulov, a resident of the Untsukul District, there are rumours that people solve the problem with passage through the Gimry Tunnel "as usual either for an acquaintance or for a bribe."
"They have said that if the special operation in the settlement of Vremenny is completed, then the tunnel will be opened on October 5. At present, the situation in the Untsukul District is quiet, and we hear no shooting for several days already," the source has said.
Let us remind you that on 2 October, according to a source from the law enforcement bodies, law enforcers conducted a search for militants as a part of the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, introduced in the Untsukul District. In the course of the special operation, three suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed.
