Stavropol: 60 persons hold picket against felling Taman Forest
Today, about 60 people gathered in 200 Years of Stavropol Square to hold a picket against the felling of the Taman Forest in connection with the plans to build a perinatal centre there. They demand to hold public hearings on the construction project.
Vyacheslav Markin, one of the organizers of the picket, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that this was the fifth action against cutting trees in Taman Forest.
"Administration officials promised to hold public hearings regarding the construction in the forest in September; however, today is October 1, and nothing is heard about the hearings. Therefore, our usual posters – 'No to felling!' and 'Let's save Taman Forest!' – were complemented by another one – 'Where are public hearings?' Television and the press have ignored both the picket and the court session on the citizens' lawsuit against the felling, which took place shortly after the picket," said Vyacheslav Markin.
