Dagestani SC upholds verdict to Zarema Bagavutdinova

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has left the verdict to Zarema Bagavutdinova, an activist of the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy), unchanged.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the verdict to Zarema Bagavutdinova was handed by the court in Buynaksk on May 21 this year. She was found guilty of recruiting in November 2011 a native of Dagestan Mamma Dalgatov for participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs). The prosecution asked to sentence her to six years of imprisonment. The defence appealed against the verdict at the Dagestani SC; at the court session on July 23, the defence asked to cancel the verdict and acquit her.

The decision to uphold the verdict was made by the SC today, the "Chernovik" weekly reports referring to a source from the SC.
