Makhachkala closes children's club where 19 children got poisoned for five days

On May 30, 22 persons got poisoned in the children's club "Bambino" in Makhachkala. The "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russia's Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) for the Republic of Dagestan has carried out an inspection and closed the kids club for five days. This was reported by the Dagestani "Rospotrebnadzor". Officials claim having revealed numerous violations of health legislation committed by the cafe.

On May 30, after the kids club hosted the event to celebrate the end of academic year for fourth- form schoolchildren, 17 persons, including 14 children, got symptoms of food poisoning. Later the number of poisoned persons rose to 22, including 19 children. However, an official from the Ministry of Health has reported that the death of an 11-year-old schoolgirl, who took part in celebration, was caused by heart failure and not by poisoning.

The inspection of the children's club "Bambino" has revealed numerous violations in the activities of the children's club: the cafe employs no permanent staff with medical examination and violates the requirements for storage of food products and cooking. Moreover, according to the "Rospotrebnadzor" Department, the owner of the children's club "used to carry on business without registration with the tax authorities." He is detained for two days.

At present, all staff members of the children's club are suspended from duty and sent for medical examination. The very children's club is closed for five days until the relevant court decision.
