Georgia collects 15,000 signatures under demand to adopt amendments to anti-discrimination law

In Georgia, activists have collected 15,000 signatures under the demand to adopt amendments to the anti-discrimination law and to adopt a new law prohibiting propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation. This has been announced today by Mikhail Andguladze, a member of the Society of Noble Families. When the number of the collected signatures reaches 30,000 provided by the laws, they will be passed on to the Georgian Parliament.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that people started to collect signatures under the demand to adopt amendments to the law at the protest action that was held in Tbilisi on May 17. Furthermore, the signatures will also be collected in the regions of the country. In particular, people collect the signatures under the demand to adopt amendments to the Law "On prohibition of all forms of discrimination" (people demand to withdraw the terms of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" from the Law) and to adopt a special law prohibiting direct or indirect LGBT propaganda in Georgia. The Georgian residents have organized collection of signatures after the Georgian Patriarchate had made the statement on the disapproval of the introduction of the above two terms to the law. According to the Georgian Patriarchate's statement, those terms would promote immorality and debauchery and their legitimization.
