Georgian Ministry of Energy: HPP builders are not responsible for landslide in Darial Gorge
In connection with the disaster in the Darial Gorge, the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Energy has issued the statement which denies the responsibility of builders of the Darial Hydraulic Power Plant (HPP) for the landslide. This is reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The disastrous consequences were caused by a slide of Devdorak Glacier. This was reported by the press service of the Chief Department of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) for North Ossetia.
Let us remind you that on May 17, a landslide occurred in the Darial Gorge in Georgia. Three workers perished, and an entrance to the tunnel with people was blocked. According to the information available in the evening of May 17, at least five persons were put on the missing list. The bed of the Terek River was filled up with rock masses. As a result of the disaster, gas transit through Georgia to Armenia was halted.
The Georgian Ministry of Energy notes that, on the contrary, the construction of the HPP helped to reduce the risks and severity of natural disasters in the region.
