UNHCR officials visit KBR to study problems of Syrian repatriates

A delegation from the office in the Russian Federation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), consisting of UNHCR's representative in Russia Baisa Vak-Voya and Legal Adviser Ivan Saleev has visited the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), to get acquainted with the problems of immigrants from Syria.

The visit took place on April 28-30. Mohamed Khafitse, Vice-President of the International Circassian Association, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they discussed legal issues related to the stay of immigrants in the KBR, the difficulties they face, as well as solutions to these problems.

"We have agreed that each immigrant will write an appeal to Baisa Vak-Voya to Moscow, where he or she will present problems and social and domestic difficulties that they face in the KBR. Mr Vak-Voya has promised to help them," said Khafitse.

Answering the question about the essence of the help, Mohamed Khafitse explained that the help can be in the form of foodstuffs, clothing, medicines, as well as "solving problems of placing children in kindergartens, schools and universities."

In total, according to Khafitse, the KBR has accommodated about 800 Syrian refugees: of the 284 people live in sanatoria and hotels; others live either with their relatives or have bought housing at their own expense.
