Georgia: 1500 gold miners on strike
On the 22nd day of the strike held by workers of gold mines in Bolnisi, the number of protesters has reached fifteen hundred. Employers made some concessions, but the workers insist on reinstatement of all their earlier dismissed colleagues, said Tamaz Dolaberidze, the chairman of the trade union of mining and metallurgy workers.
Let us remind you that the strike at the enterprises RMG Gold and RMG Copper, engaged in mining of gold, copper and other useful minerals in the Bolnisi Region of Georgia, began on February 14, when strikers demanded to reinstate 186 workers and raise wages by 40%.
"Initially, the strike was 120 workers strong; they supported their 180 laid-off colleagues. However, as of today (on March 6) the strike is supported by all the workers of these enterprises," Tamaz Dolaberidze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
