BSU students protest against dismissal of their teacher Altai Geyushov

Students of the History Department of the Baku State University (BSU) held a protest action against the dismissal of Associate Professor Altai Geyushov, their lecturer.

Let us remind you that on November 12, Altai Geyushov, a history teacher, reported that he had been dismissed from the Baku State University for his activity on social networks.

On November 13, students of the History Department announced a boycott of classes. The information on the students' protest was spread through social networks.

Facebook users have reported that the protesters were met by Azad Rzaev, Dean of the History Department, and Sani Gadjiev Rzaev, Vice Rector, who promised that "there will be no problems for return of Altai muallim (teacher) to classes."

Meanwhile, the BSU administration has not confirmed the information about the dismissal of Altai Geyushov from his teaching position. According to the Rector, Altai Geyushov did not attend classes; however, no order to dismiss him was issued, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Zokhrab Ismail, the leader of the Public Association for Assistance to Free Economy, a good acquaintance of Altai Geyushov, has denied the allegations that the scientist did not attend classes at the university. Moreover, he has noted that recently, students from other groups and even departments started to attend the Altai Geyushov's classes.

"These classes have transformed into lively discussions. Apparently, it alerted the authorities, who seek to suppress any activity among young people," Zokhrab Ismail supposes.
