The farmers who suffered from natural calamity are holding actions of protest in the settlements of Georgia
Local residents dissatisfied with the actions of a committee for estimation of the damage inflicted by showers and hail in summer of 2012 held actions of protest in three settlements of Georgia.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that at a conference on January, 18, the Ministry of Regional development and infrastructure of Georgia took a decision to pay compensations to the farmers in Kakheti to a sum of 95 million lari.
On January, 29, the farmers who suffered from the natural calamity in the settlement of Gavazi, Kvareli district, held an action of protest expressing distrust to Head of Kvareli Administration David Kevkhishvili.
The participants of the action declared that the committee calculated the sum of damage and distributed compensations incorrectly. According to them, those who bore no great losses received big sums of compensation, while others who underwent a large-scale damage got very little.
A similar action was held in the settlement of Kardanakhi, Gurdjaani municipality, as well as in the settlement of Chikaani, Kvareli district.
Residents of the settlement of Chikaani declared that inventory of the damage was not complete and demanded aid from Prime Minister. They state that a new committee for estimation of the damage must be created for a new calculation. Otherwise, they threaten with blocking the central highway of Kakhetia, “Medianews” reports.
