ECtHR took cognizance of the claim of the attorneys of convicts on the case of blasting “Nevsky express”

European Court of Human Rights took cognizance of the claim submitted by lawyers Tatiana Okushko and Musa Pliev who participated in the case of blasting “Nevsky express” train concerning torture on the defendants during investigation.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that on March, 31, 2010, Committee of Inquiry with Public Prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation brought a charge of terrorism against 10 residents of Ingushetia on the case of blasting “Nevsky express” in autumn of 2009. Later they were arrested but did not acknowledge themselves guilty. According to a verdict of Tverskoy regional court of May, 22, 2012, four defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment. The rest six were sentenced to seven to eight years of custody.

According to the attorneys, the claim recognized by ECtHR on January, 25, runs that Zelimhan Aushev and Murat Kartoev were tortured during preliminary inquiry as a result of which they gave themselves up and confessionary statements were obtained from them.

The attorneys are sure that the “verdict was based on the confessionary statements obtained under torture as a direct evidence”.
