Convict for blowing up "Neva-Express" Train dies in Ekaterinburg colony

Tarkhan Kartoev, a resident of the Ingush village of Ekazhevo, convicted on charges of blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train, has died in Penal Colony No. 2 (IK-2) of Ekaterinburg.

Let us remind you that 10 natives of Ingushetia were arrested on the case of blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train in the fall of 2009. According to the verdict of the Tver Regional Court of May 22, 2012, four defendants received life-long sentences. Tarkhan Kartoev was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. In early June this year, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) accepted the complaint against the verdict to the figurants of the case of blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train to consideration.

According to Umatgiri Kartoev, today he has received a telegram from the IK-2 saying that his son Tarkhan Kartoev had died.

"The telegram was signed by Major V. Mikheev. My son had stayed in the IK-2 for just a week. Today, with my nephew we fly to Ekaterinburg, where my son had been convoyed," Umatgiri Kartoev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Tatiana Okushko, Tarkhan Kartoev's advocate, said that he had been convoyed to IK-2 quite recently; and he did not complain about his health.

The officer on duty at the IK-2 has refused to confirm or deny the information about the death of the convict Tarkhan Kartoev.
