The court in Azerbaijan brought a standing judgement concerning the verdict of guilty to Nigyar Yagublu
Today Sumgait Appellate court dismissed the appeal of Nigyar Yagublu, activist of the youth branch of oppositional party “Musavat”, convicted for committing a road accident with a lethal end.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that Yagublu was convicted on the case of a road accident that took place on August, 25, as a result of which member of “Musavat” party Aidyn Adjalov died. On December, 19, 2012, Absheron district court sentenced Yagublu to 2,5 years of custody.
At the trial Yagublu emphasized violation of standard of procedure during consideration of the case in the first instance court.
The defense asked for either acquittal or reduction of sentence to the girl and release in the courtroom taking into account committing the road accident by inadvertence, the girl’s juvenile age, the absence of claimants and five moths she had already spent in custody.
However, the prosecution insisted on a standing judgement concerning the verdict of the first instance court. The motivation of this position was that Yagublu at first did not confess to being at the wheel at the moment of the accident.
After a short counsel the judge announced dismissal of the appeal and confirmed the verdict.
